Welcome to the world of advertising, where it doesn't really matter if you have weak bladder control because all you need is a revolutionary panty liner thanks to which you'll be able to continue with your normal life, a world in which your clothes' colors will improve wash after wash thanks to intelligent powders, the same world where your hair never looked as strong and shiny as it does now. Needless to say, you are full of energy, now that you discovered that probiotic drink, and your kids are feeling much more confident now with that new pair of sneakers everybody in their class is talking about.
Italian schools and institutions fail tolerance test
2007-11-01
Italy is most recently not quite a good place to stay for immigrants and minorities: during the latter years the local press was dotted with several articles related to crimes committed by immigrants and/or people residing in the country with no legal permission. In a rather emphasized manner, a strong attention has been put on the origins of the criminals rather than on the facts themselves. This had a very negative effect on the Italian people, which are becoming ever more xenophobic, especially towards Muslims and in those cities which have high amounts of foreigner residents.
‘I am gay and that is good’
2007-07-24
Germany calls itself a liberal state. Nobody should be discriminated because of religion, colour of skin, gender or sexual orientation. That is what the constitution highlights in its first articles. And everybody should be able to live his values and beliefs as long as they are consistent with the constitution. After the WHO (World Health Organisation) deleted homosexuality from the list of psychological diseases in 1990 the gay-lesbian movement achieved a great success for the rights of homosexuals in Germany in 2001. The parliament implemented a law to strengthen homosexual partnerships. Nevertheless, though partners in a same-sex union have gained certain rights like to adopt children there are still decisive differences in terms of tax laws, civil service law and the law of succession. So there are still lacks of equal rights to be fought for in the next years.
Generation Praktikum / Generation Precarious – A Subjective Report
2007-06-29
When I finished my last exams at school I originally did not want to decide what to do with the rest of my life immediately. Therefore, I decided to do some practical placements and to experience foreign countries. I thought it would be a great opportunity to gain impressions on a foreign culture and to improve my language skills. It is indeed. Nevertheless, to start a longer time (mostly one year) voluntary work abroad is a costly thing as the regional people or the responsible organisation can often not pay for this social work. This kind of practical experiences is obviously only possible for young people from more or less wealthy families who can afford a job that is unpaid and furthermore, spend a huge amount of money on living and especially traveling expenses. At the end I decided to choose a degree course that provides me an internship within my studies and gives me the opportunity to search for more purposeful practical experiences.
The German identity in a globalised world: a scheme
2007-06-19
When you ask a German after German people all over the world he will probably make a grimace and tell you about small minds and embarressing looking tourists. And then he or she will shout out: „But I am not like this!” So is there a common German identity or is the only thing we have in common that we are a nation of individualists?
Drugs: A European Topic
2007-06-01
Europe’s common strategy Assuming that drugs is an important topic for a common European policy regarding the criminal dealing of drugs as far as the impact on public health, the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) researches developments in Europe. As one can see in the Centre’s last report (2006) the European cooperation including a new common drug strategy for the period of 2005 - 2012 and two action plans is increasing. One can understand this strategy as a consensus of European member states how to deal with the drug problem. Although remarkable differences still exist among national drug policies one can find elements of prevention, therapy and the limitation of damage in nearly every national plan. The report also shows that one has to broaden the common understanding of drug problems. Despite the fact that 60 % of people asking for a therapy still suffer from addictions to opioids, the consume of cannabis will influence public health more and more.
Punish or Legalise - Discussion about drugs in Poland
2007-05-24
Since 1989, after the system has changed and borders have opened, Poland, known mainly as one of the biggest amphetamine producers (with Belgium and Holland), has become a drug consumer. Obviously, it didn’t happen in one day, it was continuous process that lasts till today.
